Range hood installation across Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia
A range hood is the install people put off because the old one still turns on. Then it rattles, the light dies and the filter has not been changed since the house was built. We swap under cabinet hoods, wall chimney hoods and the hood insert inside a custom cabinet.
Or call or text (240) 802-7282. Hours 8 to 6, Monday through Saturday.
How the job goes
The hood itself is quick. The duct is where the time goes. A hood with a round collar on a kitchen with a rectangular duct needs an adapter and sealed joints, and a hood that recirculated for years may have a duct behind it that was never connected. We sort that out on the visit, not after.
Jobs we take
- Under cabinet hood swap into the existing space
- Wall mount chimney hood on the studs
- Duct adapters and sealed joints to the existing duct
- Recirculating setup with a charcoal filter where there is no duct
- Cabinet trimmed or a filler added for a taller hood
- Old hood removed and hauled
Who installs a range hood in Maryland
Hanging the hood, sealing it to the duct and setting the filter is handyman work, done by an MHIC licensed contractor. A hood with a cord that plugs into a receptacle in the cabinet stays with the handyman from start to finish.
Most hoods are hardwired to a cable in the wall. Making that connection is electrical services under section 6-101(k), so the licensed electrician on our bench does it and the handyman does the rest on the same visit. A kitchen with no hood wiring at all needs a new circuit, which is electrician work with a permit.
In Maryland, piping, a plumbing fixture or a plumbing appliance is plumbing services under section 12-101(n) and belongs to a licensed master plumber or someone working under one. The one exception the statute names is hooking a dishwasher, disposal or icemaker to existing exposed lines, which section 8-101(g) calls home improvement, so an MHIC contractor can do that part.
The Maryland rule in full, with the statute sections, is on the Old Line Home Repair license page.
What it costs
A range hood install is one visit for the handyman, or one visit with the electrician added when the hood is hardwired. We have not billed one on the public list yet, so the finished install and fixture jobs we have billed are below for scale. The estimate names each trade on its own line so the number is clear before the visit.
What moves the price is on the range hood installation cost page.
Every job is done by a contractor licensed with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC). The license number is on your estimate.
